Packed up & headed out Monday morning, with a stop at Sierra Nevada brewing in Chico for lunch; their original Pale Ale is one of my favorites, and best fresh from their taps: Denny in the taproom: Last stop was at Shasta Lake campground, and it was HOT- 101˚. So we went down to the lake and waded out up to our necks, looking like human fishing bobbers. We dried our towels & gear on the car. I was tired of setting up & tearing down my tent, so I slept in my sleeping bag on the picnic table, under the stars. Next morning we hopped on the I-5 north to get back in time for my 32nd anniversary date with my lovely wife this week, and saw some interesting scenery along the way: The Ranchero ran flawlessly, not one issue. We only checked once, but got 17.5 mpg fully loaded. Unleaded regular ran from $3.89 to $5.99 along the way. All in all, another great trip with a good friend, and we're already thinking about a trip to a major NHRA race next year.
Brainard, Minnesota - you guys would fit perfectly in the "zoo" - (that's what they call the campground)
Been there, done that twice years ago. Trip 1- blew up my Baja Bug motor doing donuts in the mud pit; had to hitch hike home. Trip 2- Got my dune buggy keys confiscated for trying to sneak beer into the pits. Snuck back at nite, hot wired it and drove it back to our camp. Just part of my young & dumb years, whooping it up after getting out of the service.
