Hey Everyone, I'm new to the site just joined about 3 days ago. I just bought a 1966 Ranchero. I am going to be restoring it. I'll try to post pics of the progress. I'm sure I'll have a few questions or two, so please forgive my ignorance. Looking forward to the resto and to talking with ya'll.

Well first off, a big thanks to everyone for the welcome. Now, for the progress. I moved the car into the shop. Vacuumed out all the crap. The rust is not bad. Mostly surface rust. The bed is bad,with big holes in it. Small holes in the floor boards of the cab. But better off than most for something of this year. The interior is complete. Needs to be reupholstered. Pulled the motor and transmission. The engine is not original to the car. It is a 68 302 out of a fairlane or torino if I decoded the block numbers right. The engine turns no problem. Took the valve covers off to check for grim. They turn out really clean. Pulled out the harnesses and marked all my wires.I also took everything out of the engine bay. If anyone has some pics of under the hood on a 66 could you post them? preferably one with factory air. I would like to see what I am missing.
In my Rusty project pics at Supermotors you can find underhood pics...No compressor but it has the pully setup pics...I`m not gonna use AC... Geez, you guys!! Don't you know how to use Google? I found these in 30 seconds. I didn't look further because I'm not the one that needs them. Try asking on a Falcon website, as there are a lot more of them. [/IMG] This one sorta reminds me of Sarah's engine, what with the wires running every which way. Wow thank you Asis66 for the link. Great pics. I see what you mean by "hidden rust." And Sean, thanks for pulling those pics for me. I can look them up on google. But I was hoping to interact with the people on the forum if they show me pics of their 66 I could ask them specific questions and learn other things, such as Rusty's hidden rust spots.
Forgot to post some progress. Didn't get a whole lot done today. But I started some out side body work. If anyone has any tips for me feel free to shoot them my way. I was told how to start sanding. This is my first attempt. Also found lots of crap behind the head lights.
I found 12 empty snake eggs and a bunch of shed skins under the fender of mine when I took the fender off I was serious about joining a Falcon forum for additional information. I am a member of Torino forum, as my Rancher is 50% Torino, and there are 90% more of them than Ranchero's.
Wooo. Made some awesome progress today. Got the body completely sanded down and primed. No bad rust. All minor surface rust. only bad spot are in the bed and small holes in the floor boards. and only a small area of bondo on the drivers side fender. and its a super small area. the hood is a goner I think. gonna need a new one of those. I start blocking it tomorrow. I'll post pics soon.

Look real close at that Bondo and make sure the repair got rid of the rust, that will come back in the form of bubbles years down the road... IF they didn`t get rid of the rust completely, the Bondo will turn loose of the metal and bust the paint... Bodyshop 101/OJT taught me to use kittyhair/fiberglas to repair rust spots after sandbalsting away the rust... However there are "rust busters" like POR-15 and such nowaday, that assure it doesn`t return... I`ve not got experience with this new stuff and don`t know how it holds up, though...
And if that bondo is filling a dent or a scratch, none of the above applies. I wouldn't even remove it if it looks like it's holding up. Post some new pictures of your progress. Naked cars (bare metal) and sort of artsy.
If stripping car to bare metal and exposing old Plastic filler I would remove it and just to be sure it has not pulled in any moisture. Old "bondo" is like a sponge it will pull in water and can cause issues down the road.
Wow. Crazy few weeks. Finally getting to do more work on the ranchero. I'll try to get some pics up soon. Learned a little about hammer and dolly. Worked out the large dent in the fender. Lots of work still ahead.
