No, EZ Brown that is not the area. Mustang Ranch was about 20 miles EAST of Reno and the terrain was not/is not that GREEN. No, I have not been there either, but I know where it was. It was closed several years ago by the IRS. Something about tax evasion.

Hi Everybody, Im Jeff and while surfing the site today I saw this thread and wanted to tell you alittle about me. I have had my chero for right around 22 years. I was a member of The Ranchero Club while Gene was running it and was happy to find this site a few weeks ago. My chero is a 1971 500. Though you would not know it now. I have done so much to it in the years that I have owned it. Retractable headlights, GT hood, BOSS 351, narrowed 9 inch. I found a junk GT Torino and took the Power Disc Brake set up, spindles, plus some of the better interior parts for my chero. The door panels, and dash came off of a Torino 500 I found in a junkyard. That car had only 70,000 miles on it and had been totalled by the insurance company. She has 15x10 Center Lines out back with 12.5x28 Mickey Thompsons out back and they are inside the fenderwells. Hopefully I can figure out the way to post pics and I will have some here for you guys to see.

  5. I'm Tom from Colorado. I have a 70 Ranchero Gt 429/c-6 that I am in the process of restoring. I purchased it a few years ago with less than 100,000 miles and it had been stored in a bird infested garage for about 13 years. Still runs and handles fine but I'm trying to get it back to good condition. I have a 68 Torino Gt Convertible "project" that I have decided to try and sell this week to finance the restore on the Ranchero. Glad to find this site.

Heya, my name is Tim and I've recently returned to the north east after a 3 year stay in Charleston SC. I bought my second Ranchero down there, already had a 73 GT which I owned for almost nine years and loved.

The latest is a 72 '500' with a 400/C6. I've already replaced the rear diff, swapped in a four barrel and intake, and cleaned up under the hood a quite a bit.

Currently I'm on a one-man crusade to prove the 400 is a fantastic motor (it is to the 351C what the 351W is to the 302) and not an oversmogged truck motor. Of course it helps that mine was made in '72 ;)

If anyone is close to the Philadelphia area I would love to get together for a cruise... err, maybe when it gets warmer out...

Great site, so glad I found you folks!!

how about two man crusade ??? l have never really had a problem with my 400's, although a lot of people talk $hit about them, yes, l would rather a 460, but l quite happy with the performance of the 400, it [the chero] does everything l want it to, there's really nothing else l would rather drive, welcome to the site, l do like the 72 body style, regards, colin

Should be a real 400 only produced in the early 70s.

Well, it has the 2V Cleveland heads, around 9-9.5:1 compression. Came stock with a tiny 2-bbl carb. Not so sure it's "rare" but it's definitely before Ford had to start de-tuning them due to detonation problems. It runs really strong and seems to get better with every add on.

Thanks for the welcome, very happy to be here!

PS sorry for the late reply, work had me up in Syracuse NY for a couple days.
