I love the "Gun Metal Grey" color choice, I got my Sportster painted that color...
    It`ll look nice, I`m sure!!!
    edit:
Rusty looks a whole lot better with her 100 yard paint job, even though I still got a LOT of bodywork and paint stripping to do, I KNOW you`ll be happy when your baby is shiney!!!

You going with watercolors for the rest of the car, or did you find someone that will use real paint?
The waterborn stuff sucks. It is very difficult to get a good finish, that is why you see oarnge peel on the lower panels of Mercedes now. And the rest of the paint looks no better than you would find on a new KIA.
Real paint is being smuggled in from Mexico, like the 12 refridgerant, but there is no way to know what you are buying.
That stuff you used on the top don't look bad for a single stage, and as you have to color sand 2 stage twice at minimum to get a decent finish, 4 is not that bad. You could have gone with 8 sanded coats of laquer only to have it shrink and crack in the sun.

Cool but I was kind hopeing you had found some of the simulated vinyl top pant that was around in the late 60s early 70s My ol man had a 68 International pick up truck yellow with the fake black top from the factory.

If I could find it I would do the top of the PLY with it.

Get your local Sherwin-Williams industrial paint store to mix you up some IBM mainframe computer texture paint. You can get a quart for about $16.

    (unquote)

We used a 3M product called Body Shoots (?spelling?) that looked good as a repro vinyl roof...it too is an undercoating...

I know the Line X product can be sprayed on with a texure or smooth with a paint finish. I almost had it done on the 74 to protect the rockers from chipping. But the price would have put me WAAAY over budget.

I'm drawing a blank on the correct name, but there is a paintable 'pebbled' coating applied at the factory on rockers and near wheel openings. 3M makes it, but I've also seen it in the touch-up paint/body repair displays. :cool:JD
