Hello Everyone, I have been hanging out on the site for a while to learn all I could about Ranchero's before I finally found one. One thing I have certainly learned is that nearly any question asked will get a quick and informative response. It is amazing and wonderful to have access to such a wealth of knowledge and experience from folks who are more than willing to share it with some of us who may/will need it in the future Just a few months ago I picked up a 1971 Ranchero from a guy that had to move out of state and could not take it with him. He left it at a friends house and after about 3yrs. the friend wanted it gone from his property. I went over to take a look at it. Could not get it to run but could get it to turn over with no obvious unusual noises. The body was totally in tact except for the grill, and no rust anywhere, some chrome wheels and decent tires. I thought--this is better than I expected. I went home and called the owner, somewhere in Kentucky, to ask some questions. Owner says it is 71. Owner says it is a 351 cleveland auto--not unusual, however he says that the car came with stock and original bucket seats with the auto.gear selector on the floor. On the dash where the clock is usually located there is a tachometer that he says is factory installed and original to the car. He has installed electronic ignition to the car at the same time he had the engine rebuilt, just before he left the state. He had also installed an ass kickin stereo system since it was his daily driver. So when he asked me if a price of $200.00 would be too much, I nearly fell out of my chair. I immediately said that would be fair, called the tow truck and picked it up that day and took it home. Sorry, I just could not pass that up, whether it ever ran or not!!! To date it appears that everything he told me about the old gal is true. I verified the engine rebuild with a local rebuild shop where I live, they remembered doing the old truck. I have since taken the old thing on about 5 or 6 trips to our vacation home, in the San Bernardino mountains, which is about 150 miles round trip. I am finding some things that need to be attended to that I will address on a new thread. So far, I believe I have already gotten my monies worth. What do you think???? Hope you enjoy the story Rancho
Reads like you got a very good deal to me! Glad that you got it running and would expect that you will have some things to address from it sitting so long - probably most of which are relatively easy. Welcome to the site!!!
That has to be one of the best deals we've heard of yet... Welcome to the wonderful world of Ranchero ownership ! Oh yeah, post pictures, lots of pictures!!!
Thanks guys for all your comments. Yes I will try to post some pic's. Only trouble is I am not sure how to post pic's. Is there a tutorial or someplace on the site that will walk one through the pic. posting process? I am currently on the general help thread trying to get some help on the electronic ignition. Title is ELECTRONIC IGNITION HELP PLEASE if any of you would like to throw some help my way, would appreciate it. Thanks again Rancho
