Right OR wrong? Not my intent to disagree with those with different experiences. I suggested checking the radiator. And as I mentioned, it had not been suggested. As a `non` mechanic, that's where I`d start. Of course there are other factors causing over heating.
You were right, overheating = check the cooling system. You are also right about other contributing factors.
Well when I had my road trip adventure 4th of July weekend I threw a push rod into another one I pulled the lifters out and I can't remember for the life of me if I put them back. so I might have destroyed my cam I also am going to have to take a look at my water pump to see if I have any flow that could be a problem, and of course the timing is a huge problem and I know I need a carb tune haha let the money pit adventure start.
Thank you for your suggestioni checked my radiator it seems to be good It was a bit low so I added and it seemed to flow through hasn't been low since that's why I went on to the tstat but I'm open to rechecking that's what this thread is about getting as many trouble shooting possibilities out of the way.
If you didn't put the lifters back in the pushrods would not have been able to be installed and you would have a non running engine.
The reason the radiator wasn't brought up was due to your description of the overheating. If it were overheating at speed, a plugged radiator would be the first thing to check.
As much as we might disagree, you saved the blisters on the end of my fingers on that one. Sounds like the party before the deployment so I will give him the benefit of the doubt. Come home safe and whole. Skip
That depends on the condition of the lifters and the cam. It is good practice to keep track of all the parts and reassemble them back in the positions they were originally, unless the cam or lifters were set to fail anyway the only harm would be a shorter cam life, but with hydraulic lifters things are a bit forgiving. If a lobe wiped, or a lifter failed you would have cylinders that didn't work. It would be real rough and very little power.
Not unless you put them in upside down. Then it would have been cowboys and Indians when the pushrods blew through your valve covers and hood. If, just saying, if you got it together like that... I want to see the video.
