IMG_1180.JPG I am asking for opinions from this group on what color to paint my 1957 Ranchero. It is not going to be a Hotrod but would like to take it to car shows and use it for part time driver. It is my son and mine's first classic car project.
    Keep it Black? 2 tone?
Running gears and engine are complete.
    Thanks...
    Steve--

    Here's my 2 cents:
    a. If it's already black, it would be easy to re-do it black.
    b. In the 50's, there were fewer black cars, and more two-tone & pastel colors

Other than being a pain in the rear to keep clean, a black car always looks great. You have to learn to be really anal about the surface prep if you want to make a black paint job look like a million bucks but in the end it is worth the effort.

I think that body style is well-suited for a rwo-tone paint job.

Black for sure! (But then my '75 GT is black.)

The classic "style tone" is always great on a 57. It emphasizes the body lines and era. All black looks like hotrod to me.
But you kind of need the side trim.
Looks like you are missing trim around the rear window.

Black is Beautiful baby! Especially if its the original color. If I was going 2 tone I'd black and tan with a tan interior...(shrugs)

We always had an all black car reserved for "Sunday Go To Meetings" and such. Guess who got the honors of keeping that car looking good ? Yeah, I got suckered into that chore. Learned the different methods for caring for enamel and lacquer and how to buff without swirls or burning thru on the sharp corners. Clear coats were a huge education too. Before I die I want to do a black with very faint grey fade to gold ghost flames.

The '57 Chero in the James Bond flick "Goldfinger" was all black with chrome trim. Does yours have all the trim?

Painted the black fenders on a '37 once, black acrylic. Damp weather, no air dryer, turned the most beautiful pearl, almost as if I intended. Many, many bad words, many hours stripping and re-doing. Live and learn.

Black and tan would be fantastic. I never cared for an all-black car, though. I live in the desert, and black gets hot ... and dirty. And not "hot" in a good way.

Yes all the trim but it came out with very little. Mine I was told was the plain jane model but rare.

The Ranchero in "Goldfinger" was a light blue 64, The black 57 was in "Thunderball" and it was a Skyliner.

You're right, it was "Thunderball, but for years, I thought it was a Ranchero; I just googled images from the movie, and, sure enough, it was a convertible. My brain certainly is going away way too quickly.

I took a look at IMCDb. Com, and in looking at the Skyliner, if viewed head-on, it can look like a Ranchero. When it races up behind Bond's Aston Martin, it definitely looks like a Ranchero, which could've been caused by the camera's lens setting.
