When I heard that Paul Walker died yesterday, my first thought was, 'who?'. Fast and Furious was one of the dumbest movies I've ever seen. I never thought they'd make seven of them.

I will now add 'Passenger in a Porsche driven by an ex-race car driver' to the 'Ways I Will Not Die' list.

How fast was he going to break the Porsche in two around that little tree?

    Saw this on Reddit:

"I'm posting this with a throw away account because I don't want to profit from this tragedy, but here are some facts about the accident today that everyone needs to know:
I was at the event an hour before the crash and 3 of my close friends were first responders at the scene.
Paul was NOT driving the car, the car was being driven by Roger Rodas, his business partner at Always Evolving
They were NOT street racing - There was no other car involved
The only car involved was a Porsche Carrera GT owned by Always Evolving, which is part owned by Paul Walker
The crash happened on a quiet industrial area, directly in front of the AE shop
Paul was there to support a Christmas Toy Drive - This was NOT a racing event / underground street race / anything of the sort
Roger lost control of the car, spun, hit a pole and the car broke in half and burned
Edit: There were NO DRUGS and NO ALCOHOL involved, at all. There was zero alcohol at the event.
Paul was a very casual acquaintance of mine, I doubt if he even remembers who I was, but he was very close friends with a good friend of mine - Paul was was very gracious to everyone he met and an overall nice guy.
Please help me dispel any rumors that could taint his memory - Yes, he was the Fast and Furious guy, but street racing and endangering lives was not his thing.
Paul has done great work with his charity Reach Out WorldWide[1] including sending medical teams and supplies to the Philippines recently.
Clarification: I was NOT at the scene and was not a witness, I left to go get some food and heard about the accident and the fire dept was already gone by the time I returned.
Edit this is where the crash happened. The AE shop is directly behind it. http://goo.gl/maps/J85LQ[2]
Edit 2 - For what it's worth, this is the event Paul was there to support[3] - If you want to donate in Paul's memory http://www.roww.org[4] would be the charity to donate to."

Looks like a double Darwin award attempt to me.
On the plus side, they were off by themselves and didn't risk others lives with this stunt.

Something about burning to death really makes me queasy. I recall the same feeling when I first watched the Wizard of Oz, as a kid. Gunshot, falls, explosions; no problem. Maybe it's the suffering part,..like drowning, with a lot of pain.

Luckily they were wearing their seat belts, otherwise they might have missed that part. :D

Possibly. But without seatbelts, they could have died hitting the building at 100-mph.

    Watch out!
Our resident safety expert (he's an expert, so he has to be right) will tell you that seatbelts and air bags always save lives, never cause people to lose their life. (Except when they do ;) )
Paul Walker is better off for the seat belts and air bags, that guy would have been also.
Tests with passive dummies, done by experts, prove beyond any doubt that this is true. :p
By the way, I think what the auto safety industry is trying to do is laudable. Not only that, but the structural changes made to vehicles based on their work has saved countless lives.

I talked to someone who drowned once, before being revived.......said it was a very peaceful way to go.

When will you stop putting words in my mouth? Yeah, I said seatbelts 'always' safe lives... Why do you think I'm a threat to you here? Hell, you can have this place. You're the man.

As I've mentioned before, nobody cares if you wear your seatbelt or not. In fact, most here would prefer that you didn't. And, have you welded that spike on your steering wheel yet? The one you said all cars should have, because it would make us all safer drivers?

So true, ribald, why do you insist on using every thread as an opportunity to tweak Sean? That's so lame.

Now, apparently a guy from the Fast N Furious movie series was killed in a high speed wreck in a high performance sports car. Irony; it just tastes so good.

Trust me. I'd rather avoid it myself. I've even tried ignoring him, but that just makes him louder.

Prolly the same reason you two use every thread to tweak me. ;)
On this issue, Sean got on me real hard a while back for daring to point out the fact that seatbelts and airbags kill and injure people.
And, yes, I still believe that if everybody had a spike in the center of their steering wheel people as a whole would drive less aggressively and more courteously.

And I say, weld that spike to your steering wheel, Sir. Someone has to start the trend.

Until you can wrap your brain around some rudimentary physics (objects in motion, etc., etc.) there is no use even attempting to explain seat belts and airbags to you.

No tweaking, from this day forward. Promise. I didn't know that bothered you so much.

Yawn, 'a while back'? So, let's see then... The only person who would remember that from 'a while back' and relate that to a future unsolicited attack post would be... you! So even though no one on the forum remembers your little petty feelings getting hurt 'a while back', you still felt the need to dredge it up and slam him again even though it is, by now, a singular thread memory that no one keeps but you? And that's enough justification to have the entire forum's eyes rolling in disgust at you, again?

Yeah, that's a good reason to pop off out of the blue.

    You are correct.
I didn't mention the experts name on purpose. I figured that if it was still sticking in his craw he would spit it out, and he did.
Now go back and pick up your leg, I think it fell out while you had the door open. :p
