No, I only called a Durango ugly, not SUV's in general......and it's actually Pastel Lime, not seafoam green.
Denny stock 72 grille will not live in the seventytowree transplant and yes it was a work of art when chevy first used it in it there 70 Z28 so start you effort!
Wasn't there some Chrysler product from the 50's that had a similar appearance? I never found the grill any more or less attractive than about any other. Size wise the '74 - '76 was much bigger but made the fenders less aero in appearance. Won't even go where the '73 made it look like a squished, buck-toothed, deformed chin lookin' thang. (See, I told you I wouldn't go there)... If you like the billet look, kewl! Fact is, if you wanted to make it look like shark teeth, kewl! It's yours - do what you want.
1968 Chrysler 300. And any number of fifties-era Ferraris had similar grills, which is where the American and Brit copiers got their designs. And maybe the Italians copied Indy cars, dunno.
One of Sarah's picture threads had some sporty lookin' sumthunerother that had largely the same grill treatment from the 50's. On some it looks good, on others, not so good. Really don't have a big argument with the '72 grill from my perspective as the beholder. Never liked the '73, liked the '74 - '76 okay but lamented the loss of the aero look (from the side) brought in with the '70 through '72 models. It be in the eyeball of the beholder, fer sure.
I guess the Cobra being the inspiration for the 72 Ranchero will always be debateable, but anyone can see that the Cobra is a fishmouth. I've seen real fish that looked less fishy.
I like that - mind if I use it sometime? If you hooked that it might just take you for a ride if you be hangin' on the line... Ever see an A-7 or F-8? or a Super Sabre?
I don't know BB - you're older than me but something tells me that ain't a 1968. Maybe a 1958? >Denny ++++++++ Right you are, 1958. Sorry about that. Anybody else use Google images? If you go to the google main page, there's a link at top left 'images' -- click that, and then just enter in the box whatever you would like to see. It doesn't actually ID what's in the picture, but people give their pics names, and there are usually lots of hits if looking for cars. And ... they aren't always correct names [though this mistake was due to my typo].
Funny - - The 55 Chevy designers blatantly said they copied the Ferrari fish mouth too. I don't know about that verticle bar grill in that Chrysler, it looks too similar to the waterfall grill bars in a bunch of Lincolns. Gives them that blowfish look. 5.0, that verticle bar billet might look spiffy inset at the depth of the original 72 grill though. Just trying to imagine it.
I knew that grille would catch some fish........mouth lovers! this is probley the grill I will use as a start to make mine.
Something like this may scare off Illegal Aliens. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Ford...uck_Parts_Accessories?_trksid=p4506.m20.l1116
I'm starting to think you have a Durango fetish. You post more about them than Dave and I combined. You can sell your catfish and buy one, it's OK. We'll welcome you aboard, and you'll feel better too.
