Really though, that is the coolest topper I've seen. I had a camper shell style topper and a flat fiberglass tonneau type cover on various ones I've had, but that one is way cool!

    Back in Business!! :)

The hardener was junk! Bought a couple of new tubes and back in business!!!

I have also located another one of the rubber trim pecies that will be needed to finish this thing. The "C" channel edge strip that would go around the perameter of the shell. I have aready bought the "T" seal that will seal the NEW door that was cut. next is to find the window seal for the back window.

I had a Jem Top on the 74 for years but it made it look like a camper. The razor back style one I have now are very had to find. I have seen 3 of them all on 72's. I am guessing the whole idea of mounting some big nasty hinges to the roof of your ranchero can even kill the sale of coolest looking topper! That is why I am mondifiying this one in hopes to have cool and somewhat practical. (let's keep our fingers crossed) :)

    Dan,

I think you mentioned earlier that you had found a replacement handle for the top. Is is the same "T" handle style that locks with a key?

My Ranchero came with a shell, something like a Protecto-Top, pretty common on Rancheros, and I have what appears to be the same or similar T handle.

One reason I removed the top was that I couldn't lock it. Sounds like replacing it might be the key. Where did you find the handle?

    Thanks!

    Photo update time!!!

Ok guys time for an update. First thing one is reminded of very fast when working with fiberglass or any kind of body work......DUSTY!!!! So I had to clean up and then set up an area to work on this thing without polluting my entire shop.

    showing progress

now here is some progress that has been made so far. I will be off this week on Vacation so I am hoping to make some good strides this week!

I mentioned that there will not be big hinges in the top of the car. so this is what i have come up with to conventionally mount the topper to the car.

There will be more to come soon i hope. Was able to get the black trim edging and the seal for the door. Still will need to locate the seal for the window and I will be buying a new lock assembly. Once the underside body work is done to a point that it will look good when covered with fleece (stuff you cover speaker boxes with). Then I will flip it over and work on the new hatch and outer body work.

    Been at it again!

Have been workin on the ol topper today. I snapped a few and decided to share. This is the channel that will lay on the bed trim. This was very busted up and has had it's fair share of "HACK" repairs. Fibergassed it then a light coat of filler then primer. Not worried about perfect just strong. I will be covering the bottom of the top with some kind of material (maybe the gray stuff they cover speaker boxes with).

Well if it'll help, you should take some 5-hour energy and work on it all night.;)
