    With the mid 60's (64 - 67) cars, I'd rather have a Ranchero. With the late 60's to early 70's specified in the article, I'd rather have an El Camino. I'd take a pass on anything newer, just because I prefer older iron. Just my two cents.

    If I wasn't a Ford fan, I'd go for a '68 SS 396 El Camino. I think GM was ahead of Ford in body design, and especially interior design. That dash, those Astro buckets, that lovely 3-spoke steering wheel; nice stuff.

    I think Chevy had the perfect design with the 68/69 El Camino. That style is one of the most beautiful cars ever designed. I could get a lot more Ranchero for the money, though (and I had experience with Fords, working on my '67 F250), so the El Camino lost the coin toss.

    That's a good question. Imagine a Hemi Charger 'Moparo', or a 340 Scat Pak Dart-ero.

    IMHO, nearly all Sixties seats in low-priced cars are moderately comfy to downright uncomfortable. This includes Astro buckets, as one of my former boss' friends, and a customer, has a '68 or '69 Chevelle (can't specifically remember), same black interior, and I was not enamored with those seats.

    If I could afford to park an SS 396 in the driveway, the seat discomfort would be a small price to pay. As you pointed out, my '64 bench seat is moderately comfortable for zipping around town, but if I had an out-of-town trip, it would grow tiresome.

    I like the Rancheros because they aren't as common as the El Camino.
    But I do like the 68-72 El Camino body....the tail gates are very light/thin though.
    Starting in 73 I don't like the body style much.

    Back in 1978, I was so close to buying my then Boss's 70 El Camino SS with a 4 spd and 396, 350HP ,navy blue, Black interior. This thing was a beast, could chirp the tires in first 3 gears. It was fully loaded too, ac, pwr steering, am/fm radio, deluxe interior with a bench seat, 15 inch Indy mags with BF Goodrich tires and a camper shell.
