i just saw a 71 that is a finalist for builder of the year this year in the SEMA virtual contest. It is a very nice build. I know where's the picture. My picture posting talents are extremely limited but someone on here could post it for sure. I was wondering if the builder is a member here.
My opinion ... it would be little bit nicer with a flat hood. I lived with that dumb fake scoop for too long.
It looks like a red over a silver metallic base. It could also be gold but I can't tell due to the lighting.
That one may be fake, but 1) I'm sure the CJ cars had working ram air in that style, and 2) I don't care for shit for just looks; if I had a '70/71' with that scoop, even a wagon, the bastard would work correctly.
Big rubber seal sitting on the rim of the aircleaner base and formed to mate with the inside shape of the hood. Air filter lid just big enough to cover the circle of the filter element. Up above the element lid was another circular metal lid retained by a groove in the rubber seal, this part had a vacume operated trap door that opened around wide open throttle to let in colder air thru the hood scoop. Used more on the Cyclone Mercurys but a few did make it into Torino bodys. Most CJ Torinos got the Shaker hood scoops but a few got a conventional air cleaner with a flat hood. Kinda' like what Forrest Gump said, you never know until you open the box.
Got any pics? Frankly, I doubt there's enough room under a fake-vent hood (like the one in this thread) to put on any special air cleaner stuff -- it's not a shaker hood.
Isn't anything I would call a perfect seal BB. Some guys take the trouble to trim the rubber so it isn't mashed in a wad and a few lucky folks got their's sorta' trimmed from the factory. Most times you can see the paint worn off the underside of the hood from engine movement to tell if trimming would help any. I doubt there exists any link because of how few were built. E-Pay or someone making knock-offs might have more info.
Try here, note they are different from the Shakers: http://fordramair.com/new/products/ram_air_units.htm He has units for either shaker or ram air systems... http://fordramair.com
I guess the under hood ram air for 70 / 71 Torinos just isn't as sexy as a shaker poking thru the hood. My guess is the one for a 70 Cyclone is identical to the ones I have seen on Torinos.
