some old pics, need to scan one in that has the camper top on it. custom gas cap added Nova SS hood louvers...
Saving the bed from rot had a million dings and was used to haul cement...took 16 months to make it good enough for bedliner been a few years now...will redo when I get around to paint and body work...probably in white bedliner like I saw on AirFords daughters roundbody!
splash shield repair broken/cracked 2 part epoxy putty repair with embedded washers for strength primer good as new
making the gauges readable before and after...took three units to make ONE good one. applique old camera doesnt show just how blindingly bright the instruments are at night now!
New seats! going from nasty bench to aftermarket buckets...using alternate mount holes. Prepped surface with rust convertor then topped with brush on bed liner sound deadner installed custom aluminum seat bracket install new carpet and doorpanels back in with new mats
"Original style" dual snorkel air cleaner the lower portion is the original air cleaner...used snorkels from 80's mustang gt. Cut a hole for the extra snout and topped with Saleen chrome topper. note: K&N equipped!
front suspension horrifying doesnt fully describe having driven on this clapped out crap for years! original riveted ball joints. just awful went with the full P-S-T polygraphite upgrade...best decision I could have possibly made!!
front suspension new pittman arm...note beefed up areas on new part! new tie rods late model style tie rod sleeves. Took a half coil out of the springs to drop the front end down a bit.
Rear suspension original style rear sway bar end link. Broke one taking it off...but my buddy RancheroRob found me a replacement!!! not as hideous as the front but still bad! rear sway attaching hardware since replacement bushings dont exist...I took a universal poly type and shaved it to the proper thickness...its diameter is smaller but seems to work well in the application. Others like Dan the ranchero man have used jeep bushings!
rear suspension rear spring and upper link, spring replaced with moog cargo coil. P-S-T and rattle can paint to the rescue once again! Upper link back in. replaced lower link entirely with new part by Metco! pretty AND functional. butt shot! Note: used universal sway bar links with proper sized poly bushings to attach sway bar to rear end attaching bracket.
Cowl Area could use a little attention just a little paint n polish new hood to cowl seal! more polish, cleaned under cowl grills (broke one and had to replace) after cleaning lined the drains with spray on bedliner....LOVE that stuff!
Wiper motor and firewall Nasty nasty nasty...since Im doing the cowl...... clean and detail! Removed factory cruise assembly as well..since I wouldnt trust it due to age..and well...intake and carb are going to be changed anyway! should be good for another 36 years or so note:brass strap...dont leave home without it!
More speaker! Rock came equipped with the optional door speakers and i wanted more speaker area without big mods....sooooo procured a dash speaker housing from a clapped out torino going with one of those stereo from a single speaker doohickeys...should be good for 100watts if memory serves... because of the huge magnet and speaker area, and the tight quarters with all the ac ducting..some cage massaging was necessary for a clearanced fit!
Dude..................that is great! I have some work to attend to under my 72. You have given me some inspiration. Greg
thanx man, he doesnt look like much still, but he handles like he's on rails...no lie! For a 4000lb nose heavy car that is!
Exhaust work broke 3 bolts total removing rusted out system...some of the pipe original to the car... 1 on each head and the big 5/8s on the cat seal. These shots show the difference between the standard manifold and the '73 460 police interceptor manifolds. closer to Cobrajet design but smaller ports... old eastwood coating on interceptor manifolds started rusting within 2 weeks of being on the car. Was only temporary to get the system put on the car. Have since had the manifolds ceramic coated inside and out in cast grey color (looks much lighter than that to my eyes) and we'll see how it holds up on a driver. old cat has hit life #9
peculiar passenger side extension....must have been different widths per car/exhaust??? must have if you want to use donuts...manifold is flat where flange should be. Thx to Dan the Ranchero Man for the donuts...no i didnt eat them with milk! on the car...note metal gaskets with heatshields....NO exhaust leak...unlike those cheapy standard gaskets i used for fitting purposes.
more exhaust just as a side note...dont use these gaskets for anything besides mock-up...mui exhaust leaks with these...but it was just for temp assembly only! tucked up nicely
even more exhaust props to Dr. Lance, from whom I swiped the Trans Am tips idea!! Hmm and apparently Sarah too..how did I miss that?! a different type of "Rock" music http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lOinppGi6oE
