I watched it with headphones on and it scared me. Who owns that beast? And why aren't they members here? Jeeeesus!!!
When I watched it I was using my tv and I had it on our surround sound. Was very loud. But very enjoyable at the same time. El caminos better just get off if the road now. Game over.
Music of the Gods there boys ! My first encounter with a dyno came courtesy of Earnie Elliot down in the hills around Dawsonville Georgia. Driving to his shop to pick up some things on a spring day with the windows down I noticed that wonderfull sound echoing thru the hills. Started hearing it a good ten miles from his shop ! Back in the day they didn't just grab the numbers from a simple top number pull. Once they had stabilised everything, they would crank an engine up to around 9,000 rpm then leave it on the dyno for thirty minutes to an hour. Sometimes they had another engine running at the same time. All the roads around Dawsonville sounded like Thunder Road ! Love that sound !
As i watched this, i thought to myself. Good thing the guy that ties it to the dyno didnt have a hangover. that thing wanted to launch.
Back at my old place of business, around 2000, we built a dyno for Ford to balance drivetrains for stock cars. Before that, nobody did much more than a cursory balance job; these cars were vibrating messes. We had Dale Jarrett's #88 on there doing runs up to 205-mph to check the thing out. I was 3 miles away at lunch and could hear a run, across busy Troy MI. Where it was set up, between our buildings, the noise was painful.
Carl, the politics got unbearable so he went back to his roots and now is more or less overseeing his son Chase's dirt and asphalt racing career. That and restoring some killer old Ford and Mercury muscle cars. He still plays with the Woods Bros. now and then but it's getting harder for him to get in the cars.
I heard differently; because of his less than stellar finishes, and high cost, nobody was asking him to drive their stuff. Not to say he's not worth it,...he's freak'n Bill Elliott for crying out loud, just the money isn't there anymore.
I trust my source 110%. He designed that balancing dyno too. Bill hasn't had a top 10 since 2004 and his average finish is in the mid 20's the past few years. He just ain't got it no more. The fire is out.
