Here's a few shots of a VW-based Dune 'Buggy which I've been working-on for too long. I was hoping to have it finished a few weeks back but didn't make it due to some problems with the motor and a few problems with my other 'Buggy which had to be addressed. The new plan is to have it on the road/trail in time for a run in Mammoth in September. Then it's for sale. It's genuine Meyer's Tow'd. Bruce Meyers is commonly thought of as the inventor of the fiberglass dune buggy. His design was frequently copied (my other 'Buggy is knock-off). I've done a body-off resto on it, done 90% of the work myself (paint, trans and motor work were done by other people). I (along with help from my friends) have done just about everything else (I used this project and the fabrication it needed as my excuse to buy a welder!) Here are some pics: My stepdaughter and her now husband hard at work, until they lost interest in the project Body just back from paint. It stayed in this state for about a year while we moved. How it looks today Kevin
looks sharp! never ridden in one...used to see the occasional one on the road around here years ago....
That thing is sweet!! I love it. This was my very first car. I bought all the VW's in my neighborhood when I was 14-15 years old and assemble one using a Baja Kit from JC Whitney. I won a trophy at car show at the State Fairgrounds (2nd place, Off-Road Class) 3 months before I got my license. I wish I had it now. Save a lot of gas. I gotta find pictures of it completed.
There are a few of those out here on this rock referred to as "Paradise" by most. But in typical fashion, they were never allowed to register them to drive legally on the street so the ones here were all show cars until a year or so ago when someone finally pulled a cranium out of a certain body cavity and decided that as long as it was built with all the required equipment it should be ok to make them street legal.
