After 17 years I've found corrosion on all of my Magnum 500 wheels. Taking advantage of a sale from Kentucky Mustang, I bought a replacement set back in February.

The Colorado weather being better, I took my '75 GT in to my favorite tire shop to have them swap out the wheels. Turns out, the new wheels have a different offset then my previous set. I did not realize it, but my rears already had a 1/4" spacer inside the wheels to clear the Lincoln rear disc brake calipers. These new wheels still scrub the calipers even with the 1/4" spacer.

Actually the front wheels fit BUT the bearing caps are so far into the wheel that I cannot install the center caps.

So I'm thinking 1" spacers that bolt on to my existing studs for all four wheels. Spacers, that is, with their own studs for the wheels. I see all manner of these on Amazon and the like.

Any recommendations or catches for which I'm not aware?

The "spacers" with their own studs are "adapters" and in my opinion should never be used - there is no kind of weight rating for their use, no requirement for the material they're made of (usually CAST aluminum) and then they put the wheel out so far you may have rubbing issues in the front. Use longer studs (if needed) and use the thinnest spacers you can get away with to get the job done. Try grinding the outside of the calipers for clearance - there's usually enough meat to do so. Did you try installing the center caps first before installing the wheel? I've used 1/2" washers stacked on the studs to ascertain proper clearance before. NOT to drive with!!!!

I agree with pmrphil - better longer studs and spacers than adapters. This may show the problem for the front wheels. I just should have checked the offset before ordering wheels. Somehow I thought all these Magnum 500's were the same.

Aftermarket grease covers are shorter than original - BUT try installing the cap BEFORE putting the wheel on. The ORIGINAL caps have more room by the spring "fingers" than the repop ones.
