You were insinuating his ‘mates’ didn’t know what they were doing. This is plainly obvious with your detailed instructions. You even went so far as to tell Tony to make sure his ‘mates’ remember him if the clearcoat degrades later. The question is; do you even remember what you wrote? Here's a refresher. Make sure your 'mates' properly prep the ENTIRE section if they are going to blend over the existing clear....Make sure your 'mates' will remember who you are if sections turn white in six months or a year.
Earth to Sean. If I thought his friends didn't know how to do it, I would tell them. I want him to be aware of the facts. Often something that sounds too good to be true has a catch. I just want him to be careful going into a deal like this one. Go back to posting about how handling toys in a hardware store is outrageous. At least that is mildly amusing.
I've just spent the best part of £25,000 on a new car, do you honestly think I'd be entrusting a repair like this to someone who is a bloody amateur ? I've known these guys for the best part of 12 years and there work is second to none. At the moment they're restoring a 1962 VW Microbus and a 1975 Rolls Royce, the work they've done on the VW is superb, the owner has actually imported a complete roof from California, it had a pop top camper roof which he wanted to replace. The body prep, welding and paint is superb. They tried to talk the Rolls owner out of the resto as it was going to be so expensive, but he insisted as they are the best in the area. They do a lot of custom painting on articulated tractor units as well, their work has won many trophies at Truckfest UK. I am not a simpleton, I do know what I'm doing regards trusting someone with this repair. These are the guys who will doing the body prep and paint on my Mini restomod.
Sean to Jackass! Please read Tony's post. He must have 'misunderstood' your post as well. You really should back up a few paces, think about what the hell your posting before you actually do it. And I'll bet you are the only one here that thinks waving a gun, real or not, around in a store, right after an alarm sounds, right after the mall and school shootings, is acceptable. Should I start a poll? Nah, too easy.
I am sure that thanks to your help, he did. Hey, if you want to do a poll of how many pantie waists are on the site, go for it!
I never said, nor implied that they were amateurs, or didn't know how to do the work. Sean did. I do believe you are not a paint expert, i was giving you advice, not the painters. If you are cutting this deal with the owner, the risk is near zero and you should have no worries. If you are dealing with the employees, you really need to take everything I said to heart. A shop that does quality work does so with more skills than the painter on the floor possesses. Otherwise, the painters would have their own shops.
Nice try. The thing is, we know Tony better than you, what with you being fairly new here and all. You assumed, as you often do, that you know more than everyone else, so you tossed in some obvious pointers. Honest mistake. Glad you accept it.
Lighten up on the guy, will you? First you claim he is not sharp enough to understand what I was saying, now you say he is too daft to see what you are doing. What has he ever done to you to deserve this kind of treatment?
I'm dealing with the boss, the guys that work for him DO NOT give quotes and are not allowed to do work "on the side", please credit me with some intelligence, I'm not Einstein, but do possess a hell of a lot of common sense. Also, Sean's post had absolutely naff all influence on my posting, you are quite right in that I am not a paint expert, but I've been around cars of all shapes, sizes and ages for the best part of 35 years and do have a reasonable knowledge I also know a true craftsman from a fleecem, bodgit and scarper merchant when I meet them !
Sorry to get your dander up. I've been around the block enough times that I've seen a lot of things go way different than they should have. So when a deal sounds too good, I get suspicious. All I did was recommend that you be careful. If you find that insulting, all I can say is that maybe you shouldn't post things on a forum if you don't want to hear a different point of view. Maybe you should go back and reread my posts, skipping Sean's. I never made any comment about the intelligence or skills of anyone (except related to your paint background). All I did was try to point out where corners are often cut in a discount job. So relax, if I think someone is incompetent, a dumbass, or a moron, I say so. I don't speak in code.
If you want me to be nicer to you, I guess I could try. Here goes. Sean, I apologize for mistreating you. Bloviating ignoramuses are born that way, I was out of line to judge you for your condition. All better now?
I also doubt that Sean is sincere, but it goes with his condition. What is important is realizing that different is not wrong. We need to accept Sean's choices and not judge them.
