has anyone installed a 5.0 with a 5 speed and cabled clutch in an early ranchero?

I am wondering if anyone has any insight on doing this procedure.

Any helpful tips would be greatly appreciated.

Sorry but I installed an AOD with my 5.0. However, I can forsee that you will have no header problems with that combo as others using the linkages have. What cable system are you going to use Fomoco or after market? and--- why cable and not hydraulic?

I am using an aftermarket cable...cannot remember which manuf. it is. and for the fact that it is adjustable and no problems in about 75k miles.

The reason why a cable rather than hydraulic is because I am transplanting all my drive train from a '86 mustang into the ranchero and that is what I already have.

Did you change front ends? mustang II?

What are you using for headers/ exhaust man.?
I have the stock front and do not see anything fitting besides cast iron manifolds.

If you keep the original front end ( like I did ) you are very limited on exhaust options. When you use the mustII front end, the sky is the limit because you remove the shock towers. I happened across a set of O.E. manifolds from an early 302 Bronco that fit with about 1 1/2" clearance on each side. The OE mustang 5.0 and replacement headers WILL NOT FIT without some serious denting. I went through about four different sets of headders ( Jeggs really likes me he,he,ha,ha) till I realized I was wasting my time looking.

Have you upgraded to V-8 springs yet? you will need too.

how did you modify the fuel system to get fuel up to the 5.0?

did you use an inline punp, pump in tank like a stock 5.0??

If you look on the top rear corner, drivers side of the tank, you will see a small cap screwed into a fitting. Remove this and insert a 1/4 NTP air hose fitting ( perfect size and the threads match ) The reason for this is to connect the return line from the fuel rail. I used the ( new ) stock fuel pickup tube in tank. I ran two completely new lines under truck and added a generic electric fuel pump from Auto Zone for $20.00 and I can get you the part number if you need. This was tied into the fuel pump relay from 5.0 donor harness.

Alex, thank you for all of the information.

I have just one more question...

How did you go about the accelerator pedal?

Did you use the stock one and modify it...or did you use somethink else?

thanks once again...

I used the one from the Crown Vic police cruiser. I had to open an existing firewall hole a little to get it through and then "bend" the top of pedal arm where cable attaches to get full pedal action.

You are most welcome. I had a lot of advice doing mine and I love helping out others.
