I am looking at manifolds on the Summit Racing web site. For my 289, I have 7 choices. However, I have no clue as to which one to pick. They are all different and have words such as "non egr" "dual plane"," single plane" "has windsor heads' etc. What does it all mean?
Thanks!!

seeing you are a teacher l thought l would flunk this one, all l can tell you is e.g.r. is exhaust gas reciclation [spelling] which you dont need, newer vehicles have a egr valve, yours does not, now give me homework on the other three questions!!!
by the way, you just got a 5 star rating just because you live in arizona,[can anybody tell l am bored???] regards colin smile.gif

What is done to the motor if anything? The choice of manifold highly depends on what is done to the motor. If nothing is done to it and it is stock I would use an Edelbrock Performer 289 and matching Holley or Edel carb. I loved this combo on my 73 and it ran flawlessly. The single and dual plane intakes are for where you want to make your power in a certain RPM range. A dual GENERALLY will give you a better low end torque where a single will give you more revs up top. You probably see in the ads where the RPM range of the intake is and if it fits your needs. Most singles are used on modified motors. A Performer will make power from Idle to probably 5K rpm. Where a Torker will make it at 1,500 RPM to about 6,500. There are other factors to consider when doing this also but are basically to in depth to go into details.
My advice to anyone going to modify thier car is to do a little research on what others with the same motors are doing to get a good idea of where you want to be. I just bought 4 books on different Ford engines to get a better outlook on things. HP Books, Cartech and S-A Design have awesome books on Ford Performance. The 16.00 each for the books might pick you up 20+ HP and give you a better understanding on the subjects of rebuilding and modifying your Ford.

You defiantly want a duel plane for the street! Performer or performer Rpm would be a good choice as they are both Duel plane And you defiantly want and need a non egr manifold. Carb choice is up to you I like the Carter AFB/ELEDBROCK-WEBBER AFBs for the street. 625 Cfm with electric choke would be a good choice. But me Myself will never run another Carbed motor!!!!!!!!!
 ;)

No the Ac compresser is used for an on board compressed air system for the rear bags. The firewall unit will be pulled and a factory heater system will be installed in its place.

I was wondering how you got the air for your bags. EXCELLENT IDEA! I did not think there was any more room under your hood for a compressor. I am Very Impressed

Once again thanks for all your help. I now have the Performer 289 manifold and Holley 600 carb and a large air cleaner My Chero now has a little more low and mid range pickup. The gas goes bye-bye a lot faster also!
Thanks again!

How about: you definitely want?
You shouldn't be defiant about yur intake. The Performer intake is no better than stock. I would suggest the Edelbrock Performer R.P.M. Air Gap Intake: it works well with stock to moderately built engines. It performs as well as the dual planes on the bottom end and equally as well on the top end. If you really get radical, consider stepping up to the Victor JR.
