View Full Version : What to do?

I'm trying to figure out what to do about my '75 GT. The wife is complaining - much more than usual - about the "other woman" - mostly because she needs paint. Now I'll admit the paint, what hasn't been knocked off the doors, is faded and faded bad. It's starting to show primer through the black and the orange stripes are cracked and bleached out. The truck has very little rust but lots of minor dings and scrapes from, well, years of use. I was hoping to wait until I retire in another ten years to attack this, but I'm afraid of late that the wife will not. Besides, I am definately not a paint and body man - mechanics I love, but body work is just not my forte.

So what to do? I've asked my buddies around the Huntsville, Alabama area and looked at various body/paint shops but just haven't found anyone I trust to do a decent job. So any ideas? Should I look farther around the southeast? How do I know where to look?
Thanks,
Clark

Clark,
I am in a few clubs and I will ask if there is anyone around you that knows of a good body shop. If I find someone I will have them contact you. Car people are cool and will help you out.

Clark, I know about bodywork being expensive and wives that don't like to look at hubby's crap sitting in the front yard until it done. Might I suggest (if possible) that until you come up with a good shop for the right price that you try to move the ranchero out of your little sweetie's line of vision (out of sight out of mind). Then mabye if she does not have to see it she might not complain as much thus giving you the time you need to get your act together. hope this helps Dan the ranchero man.

I second that " out of sight out of mind " I just purchased a new piece of land with a four car garage in the back yard (Woo-hoo) and all of my toys will go in there so she can't see them.

Clark,
How far are you willing to take the Ranchero to get it done right?
I might be able to recommend a shop, but it's in Valdosta, GA., about 400 miles Southeast of Huntsville...

Check with your insurance agent and see who they recommend. They usually deal with shops that stand by thier work. Just another idea.

Bill, I live about fifty miles North of Huntsville in Tenn. Not far from Fayettville on 431 North is a great shop in Belfast. Steve Honnell owns the shop and is a dedicated collector and restorer of Ford muscle. He isn't cheap, but the quality work his shop turns out is well worth every penny. I am very happy with the many projects he has completed for me. You might also enjoy seeing his King Cobra Torino & Cyclone Spoiler II or the 64 Thunderbolt in his collection. Wouldn't hurt to give him a call at ( 931-270-9624 )
Hope I've helped you with this info.

Thanks guys. I've been pointed to two places nearby neither of which I knew existed. One does only show cars and doesn't advertize. The other is maybe 20 miles out. I think I'll also look into the guy near Fayetteville, Tenn. That is definately not too far to go for someone who appreciates old Fords.
