That somewhat clarifies it. I remember back in the 60's, all V8's were five lug, if you threw a V8 into a 6cyl Mustang for example you best beef up the front suspension and swap out the rear, or it would force you to in it's own time.....thanks
FINALLY a non rain out weekend. Finished up clean and pain in order to put a rebuilt rack in next weekend. note frame rail and sway bar mounting point.
Nice, always will have a soft spot for early foxbodies, I'm sure its just a matter of time until I own one again.
better get one while you can..they are either complete hulks at this point or starting to get pricey and there are more parts that are hard to obtain than you might think. yeah considering the mileage this thing is very clean. The only rust is on the brake booster/master assembly and the occasional under hood scratch. Hope to wrap this project up in the next couple of weeks. Power steering pump has leaked for years and the rack was looking pretty tired soooooo.
more steering work etc... painted up the linkage. sans tie rod ends "nice rack" you know you wanna say it. rebuilt smog pump in place
New pump in place with new lines. That interference fit pulley gave me fits. Had to put the pulleys and old belt on to get enough resistance to push the power steering pulley the last 1/8 inch to line it up properly.
finished up front dress and cranked car...dead quiet...no leaks so far on power steering. Hope to get new tie rod ends on this weekend. Then I'm left with just end links and sway bar bushing to complete as well as an alignment of course.
If only I could get her to drive it more....part of the problem was that extremely intermittant over heat issue I chased for a couple of years. I think with the engine room getting prettied up she might have her interest rekindled. Next year that ugly MC/Booster will be history and things will have improved drastically.
Looks Good!.....Im STILL waiting on tie rod ends....Summit is starting to annoy me...if it isnt in stock don't claim one to two days. This is turning out like the rack which I had to wait a month for! Hope to the get the sway bar back on soon with impregnated poly bushings.
still waiting on the $%#$%#$%# tie rods... Nasty sway bar should be going back on with new bushes and links during the holiday. scary
only real thing I got done this holiday....front sway is reconditioned and resumed it's proper place.....as I STILL wait for the #$#$@#$#$T%$#%#$% tie rod ends to ship...supposedly 12/15 now.... Polytime Beefier
Gives me flashbacks to when I managed to make one of the end links pull through the bushing and come out of the control arm on my 85 GT.
It was a fun day in the canyons, me trying to keep up with a bunch of saleens from the saleen forum in a stock non saleen stang. First time I ever made my brakes smoke too. I'll stop now, I'm starting to miss that car and the next thing you know I will be on CL looking for one!
FINALLY! the tie rods are on...and she's back in the garage waiting on the a chance to get the front alignment checked.
