Was browsing through the tv shows this weekend when I came upon a show that was at a race track in California. Caught a glimpse of this. They were lined up getting ready to race. Looks very familiar!
4000 pounds with me in it and 500 hp to the wheels is my best guess. Never had the need to put it on a chassis dyno. The engine was at 650 to the flywheelhttps://youtu.be/ZsCgM1TO8CE
The Drag strip is next to the Railroad tracks on the backside of the AutoClub Speedway. Not the same Fontana Drag strip you remember. Penske built the Speedway in the late90's I think.
Yeah, there's a couple I've seen over the past several years that were phenomenal. One is a '61 here in the local area, and another was in, I think, Hot Rod magazine, a '75 IIRC.
Good to see you check in airford!Hope all is well.Hows the maverick track car progress.Miss you regular videos of your old 72 at fontana.
The Maverick made it to the track in less than a year and I had to do more than I imagined. I managed to go 10.24 @129mph on pump gas and a single carburetor. Been in and out of the Hospital and God doesn't seem to understand I still have things to do. Recovering now and getting ready to start racing in February. Should be busy all year. This car has HUGE slicks 14 inch wide so traction is not a problem.
Sorry to hear of your health issues.Sucks getting old.Ill be 65 this summer and my body is letting my brain realize it IS later than it thinks. Please post up track videos when you get back in action.
hey take care of your health first or we will not be able to see your Maverick kick a$$,nice run on pump fuel/ANDY
At 63 I am only at middle age. I still do electrical work on construction sites, run up and down ladders, and lift weights. I plan on thinking about getting old in another 20 or 30 years but only if I start getting bored with what I do.
Was that a 1/8th mile track the Mav was running? The whole race scene's been so radically changed in the last quarter century.
Yes that is a 1/8 mile track that Irwindale made in the corner of the Speedways parking lot. They get an average of 1500 to 2000 spectators and 200 cars or more on a Thursday night. I really like running 1/8 mile because your motor is not done as with 1/4 mile you're looking for the finish line and red line at the same time.
