    Done for the night!

Finished up today with the entire bottom ready for covering. I have sniffed my fair share of bondo dust and paint fumes! Here are the results of today's work. Now I am going to take a shower and enjoy my paint high!!!!! :D

Dan, if I ever find a Montego nose, yous may no longer be one of a kind, LOL. Loving the topper too. Can't wait to see your finished product.

Don't know where you are, but if anywhere near Hayward, CA, then be aware that there is a Montego like that parked along lower Winton ave, on the south side. Has been for sale off and on for a year now. Some of the grill seems to be missing, but the car doesn't look bent or rusty.

I know mine is not the only one (just the only one I have seen finished). Most of the ones I have seen are in primer with the front clip mounted in different states of repair/condition but never finished.

Thanks for the tip. Unfortunately in this circumstance, I am far away, as in Florida.

I got up early today to see the overnight progress of this topper, and found you actually went to bed. Ah well, there's always the long weekend. ;)

Dan, What kind of seals are you going to use at the hatch area to make it water tight?

There is a company called Bak Flip toppers. They sell a folding flat truck cover that uses a rubber "T" type seal (aprox 3 in across and about 2 in down) that seals the cover. There is also a special 3M tape and glue that goes with it. I will post some photos soon since I have been working on the hatch and will be fitting soon.

    Topper Update!

Been doin some work on fitting the hatch and it has been going OK. There is (and will be) plenty of fiberglass repair. There are enough warped edges and panels to go around But I think it will still look pretty good when finished. I am also posting some photos of the edging and the "T" seal that will be used for the hatch.

Would like to build a nice station wagon I could do LONG cruises in (72-76 montego/torino/68-72 LTD full size or... a 69-70 Impala "townsman or kingswood" wagon)

I think a early 70's wagon with 18's, fuel injection, 4-wheel disks, AC, etc. would be the ***. I like the Old's Vista Cruisers with the roof windows.

What you need is a 1974 Montego "GT" wagon sitting next to the chero:D

That is a very cool topper, I have never seen anything like it. Course I live in the mountains. Have you ever used West System Epoxies? After extensive repair on a drift boat, within 6 months the repairs started to delaminate. I had to eat the whole job. I redid it with epoxy resin and 7 years later I still see that boat banging down the river. It is easy to mix if you buy the pumps for the hardener and resins. I don't use polyester resins anymore, of course I don't advertise that I know anything about fiberglass repair either. It is an itchy job, but kind of fun too.
