205/70 on front and 245/60 on rear work ok? Close to same height, I think. Max allowable width on 8" from what I can tell. Existing tires on what I believe are original wheels are 205/70r14 all the way around.

Screenshot_20201206-115107_Gallery.jpg Got 'em home. Methinks they are quite old. US Mag Indy slots. Research says they started making those again about 8 years ago but only in 15". These are 14's. Screenshot_20201206-115044_Gallery.jpg

Well, all's not well in the neighborhood.

Due to my recent mishap cutting the sidewall of the left rear tire during tailpipe removal I needed a new tire.

Nobody has used 205/70r14's. Didn't want to but a single new tire so I thought I'd throw the fat mags on the rear for now just to be able to move it around.

The backspace isn't going to work plus the studs aren't long enough anyway for the thick aluminum.

Arrrgh. Just put the wheels and the brand new center caps I bought for sale on Craigslist.

    Dang it.

Find a set of Ranger 2WD pickup wheels and tires, they bolt up and should match the hub diameter. The problem is that the old tire sizes have just about gone bye-bye. A year ago January, when I was moving down here, I had lost air in the right rear tire, and had driven on it for a while with 600+ pounds of cargo in Babe's bed. Well, after popping on the donut spare and inflating it to 60 PSI, we limped to the Mountain Home, ID WalMart, and they had two new 215-70-15 tires in stock, and no others around that size. We certainly got lucky that night. But look on Amazon, see if somebody has some in stock somewhere.

I found a new very old stock Kelly 205/70r14 at an old independent shop. Cost me $68 mounted and balanced.

Looks like the wheels have sold already. Guy from Indy on his way over to get 'em.

I should have asked more than $250 I guess.

I an running 255/45/47 front and 275/40/17 rear on 2003 Mustang Mach 1 wheels 17x8 front and 17x9 rear with a 1 inch spacer front and rear. I have no issues with rubbing I could run a wider tire too.

These wheels (not unilugs) were on the Ranchero when I bought it years ago... Have no fitment or drivability issues - but, the fender & quarter panels were already rolled by the prior owners & I left them that way... (no idea wrt to the wheel offset) Just polished them up and like the look...

I got a line on a nearly new set of American Racing 15x7 Ansen Sprints with 4" back spacing. The American website says they don't fit a 69 Ranchero.

Anyone know why they wouldn't fit?

I'd prefer a deeper wheel but am having a hard time finding any that aren't unilug and 5x4.5.

4" backspacing on a 7" rim will probably cause tire contact with the leaf springs, if not the upper inner fender.

I noticed the US Mag Indy slots that supposedly fit are 3.5" back spacing so you're probably right. Thanks.

Are those the U.S. Mag wheels? Whichever ones they are, they're very nice.

Nope. They are genuine Ford factory mags from 1973. I believe they were a 1 year only from what I have found from research. Popular on Mustangs available for other Fords with different center caps.

I've made a few vids on them.
