    79 Ranchero GT Door Tag

Hello! Here is what I have:

    From www.vinwiz.com

    Year: 9 - 1979
    Plant: H - Lorian Ohio
Series: 48 -Ford Ranchero 2 door Truck
    Engine: H - V8 351-2v

I could use a little help completing the door tag decoding:

    Exterior Paint Colors: 8N
    DSO: 74
    Body: 97R
    VR: blank
    MLDG: blank
    Int. Trim: A
    AC: A
    R: 3
    S: blank
    AX: B
    TR: X7788

There is also a date (02-79) and another code (F0139 T0089)

    Thanks for any assistance!

Below is a requested picture to help identify the paint:

P.S. - sorry to dig up the old post, but it seemed to be the appropriate place!

The production matches that date series - that could be one of the '79 1/2 vehicles - those were basically fully loaded with every option. Is your steering wheel and dash the original and are they leather? Power windows, cruise control and A/C???

Letter values in the axle indicate limited slip differential (Ford's version of posi-traction but better). Transmission is FMX and the code identifies some build specifics. A '79 shop manual owner will have to chime in for the rest...

The steering wheel is plastic with what looks like a leather cover. The dash is leather or leather-like (pleather?). It does have factory cruise control and A/C, but manual windows.

The differential sounds good- I hope to do some towing and am wondering about the suitability of the current set up.

Depends on what you are towing - my dad used a '63 Galaxie 352 2V Fordomatic for a long, long time towing a 22'+ camping trailer. With the right changes you can make about anything tow something. What are you looking to tow?

    ...looking up Fordomatic...

5000lbs is the number I'm guessing. In the short term, a 16' dual axle car trailer with 3K to 4K lb loads. Long term may involve a small to mid size Airstream, somewhere between 20' to 24'. All loads with brakes, of course.

I just picked up a '79 GT. The door tag has nothing under the paint code/ (the car is black). Interior trim is FS,
Paint colors Int trim AC R S AX DSO TR 71
    VR mldg FS A 5 B X0088

    Off to the bottom right side there is a boxed area showing;
    F0104
    T0078
    Any Clues???

You would think that the factory parts catalog would explain what those two numbers mean where Ford decodes all the numbers for the parts guys but there is no mention of them.
