There is a vent at the top of the tank that goes to a vacuum line. I am to be ordering a new tank. Where can I get that component where the vacuum line attaches, or how can I remove it from the old one?

It's held in by a grommet (ford part number D4AZ9B076A) then you will need a new filler grommet (ford part number E1AZ9072B) just gently pry the old top one out and be carfull not to break the vent. Have the new grommet ready and you can cut the old one out.

Check the rubber hose to metal tubing vent line that runs from the tank to the engine compartment. I'm thinking it runs to the carbon canister - if your Ranchero still has one. I found this line to be totally plugged when I had to replace the gas tank on my '75 GT.

As an easy alternative, I ran a rubber hose vent line from the line from the vent on top of the gas tank to a location high up behind the right side tail light assembly.
