Was browsing through the tv shows this weekend when I came upon a show that was at a race track in California. Caught a glimpse of this. They were lined up getting ready to race. Looks very familiar!

Is Fontana Raceway still there? Remember watching some races there in the 1960's...

4000 pounds with me in it and 500 hp to the wheels is my best guess. Never had the need to put it on a chassis dyno. The engine was at 650 to the flywheelhttps://youtu.be/ZsCgM1TO8CE

The Drag strip is next to the Railroad tracks on the backside of the AutoClub Speedway. Not the same Fontana Drag strip you remember. Penske built the Speedway in the late90's I think.

I've seen one in Colorado or Utah that was a lot faster.

Yeah, there's a couple I've seen over the past several years that were phenomenal. One is a '61 here in the local area, and another was in, I think, Hot Rod magazine, a '75 IIRC.

The Maverick made it to the track in less than a year and I had to do more than I imagined. I managed to go 10.24 @129mph on pump gas and a single carburetor. Been in and out of the Hospital and God doesn't seem to understand I still have things to do. Recovering now and getting ready to start racing in February. Should be busy all year. This car has HUGE slicks 14 inch wide so traction is not a problem.

At 63 I am only at middle age.
I still do electrical work on construction sites, run up and down ladders, and lift weights.
I plan on thinking about getting old in another 20 or 30 years but only if I start getting bored with what I do.

That's usually what kills you...the boredom/nothing to keep you occupied.

Was that a 1/8th mile track the Mav was running? The whole race scene's been so radically changed in the last quarter century.

Yes that is a 1/8 mile track that Irwindale made in the corner of the Speedways parking lot. They get an average of 1500 to 2000 spectators and 200 cars or more on a Thursday night. I really like running 1/8 mile because your motor is not done as with 1/4 mile you're looking for the finish line and red line at the same time.
