Been looking around under the dash now that I have temporarily removed the instrument cluster. So what is this box? Looking at the attached bracket, I assume this should have been secured somewhere under the dash. Then there is this wire plug connected to nothing. Any idea why this is there? I'm pretty sure this is the power plug for the original stereo receiver, now long gone. I would like to use this to power a GPS. Any idea where to find a mating male plug? I'd rather not splice in here if I don't have to.
Pretty sure that the box is the intermitent wiper controler. The four male and one female plug is the factory radio speaker harness. Last, the yellow with black trace is switched 12Volts while the blue with red trace is from the dash light rehostat. I would cut that matching power plug off any 70's junk Ford radio.
Ya beat me to it, except that the box *is* the intermittent wiper controller. The two-wire connector can be plugged into with 'bullet-style' connectors; that's how I'll be powering the radio/cass in the Clarion head unit I have installed, as it's ignition power.
Yes, I added that intermittent wiper controller years ago. Guess I just stuffed that box under the dash without bothering to anchor it down. I will fix that. Shouldn't the blue with red trace be mated to something for the dash light rheostat to work? Or did that dim a light in the stereo/receiver?
It went to the radio illumination but is just an extension of the wiring to all the other dash illumination. Plenty other light bulbs on that circuit.
Then there is this parking brake warning light with no bulb and no place for it in a Sport instrument cluster. Did Ford wire this one in anyway perhaps for a Standard instrument cluster?
The brake warning light on the non-sport cluster should be there, I know it had come on, on my '74 Squire. Are you sure it isn't the seat belt warning light?
I've got a light hanging below the dash. I'd say it is a courtesy light but my service manual lists on such light in a Ranchero. It looks like the courtesy light I removed from a 77 Mark V but that one was on the passenger side. Isn't it odd there is no dome light? What other car has no dome light ?? (That is not a convertible.)
Well that is a factory label "PARKING BRAKE WARNING." There was never a seat belt warning light on this 1975 Ranchero. At one time this Ranchero (460/C6) had a low gas mileage warning light. Ha! It was never off while the engine was running.
