You may be on to something. I' ve mentioned a couple times looks kinda like primer

 

Back when Ford used Ditzler paints they would dump all the extra paint at shift changes into one big vat. The result mostly looked like a fuzzy olive drab, like military vehicles. That mix was used mostly underneath the floors of early 70's Ford products. Seen exceptions though where that od green turned up inside doors and trunks and the bottoms of the hoods and fenders. Most Fords of that era had red oxide primers under the enamel paint but I have seen grey and black primer under the lacquer paint on Lincolns. Let's wait and see if Kevin can decipher what it was really painted with.
