After a 7 month break from the truck, I'm finally back on it. I'm installing the Edelbrock Performer Air Gap I bought 8 months ago. As I mocked it up this evening I noticed a couple of holes exposed on the cylinder heads. I've taken many pictures before I pulled the old Torker in December but none are taken at an angle where I can see if they're exposed. Its the ones pointed to by the red arrows. Anyone know what these are for and is it OK for them to be exposed. I didn't tighten down the manifold so I can remove it and take more pictures. It's a 351C with 4V heads.
I just found a folder with more pictures. I now remember that hole was filled with rubber or silicon sealant. You can see it in the picture and I recall removing it.
Those look like the exhaust holes for the choke heat riser. Are you certain you have the right intake?
I hope so. I spoke with a tech from Edelbrock before I bought it. I got the part number for the intake, bolts and gasket from him. I bought this exact one: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000VDHZOA/ref=wms_ohs_product?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Ok, thanks. Does that hole lead anywhere internal? ie, is there a risk of metal shavings getting into the engine when I tap it?
Plug it down a bit with RTV before tapping then blow it out. Look carefully at everything else first though, usually intakes have this blocked. I am a Windsor/385 guy so I don't know why this would happen.
You could probably find some small freeze plugs to tap into them, less work and risk than drill/tapping. Looked at a pair of M heads I have here, that's a blind hole on them.
