When I got my GT cluster, I noticed that all numbers on the trip meter are gone. As I work in a model shop, I tried a set of tiny numbers. Very simple. Just need to get a set of white numbers to finish this. For the first attempt, I used too small numbers of 3.6 mm. The next bigger size will match perfectly.
It seem that they peeled off. Especially on the 10, 1 and 0.1 miles. The 100 miles had some numbers, but you could slide the print off.
Before you do that, I have a disassembled GT cluster in storage, and as I recall, the numerals on the dials were good. So if you'd like to replace that rather than doing your own numbers, let me know on here. My first job after I left the Navy in '89 was at a friend's hobby shop (I'm a model railroader and modelbuilder myself).
Oh, I should mention, just in case there's any difference in the speedometer mechanisms, that the spare I have is out of a '77 cluster.
I use dry transfer decals. It is very simple. You just rub it on. Disadvantage is, that once set, they are set. I look around for wet decals. So I can slide them from the paper on the dials and can align them before they set. But thank you for the offer for relacement parts No kit, nor a diecast model. Sorry. I know that there are earlier models and then the 1972. Nothing else. I know that there is a Revell kit for the 70 / 71 Gran Torino. You can convert it if you are experienced in scratch building.
I have the same issue, what a great idea. Although if you still have the cluster "handy_andy_cv64" i would be interested in it. Let me know.
Well, I don't have the entire cluster; I just stripped it down, fixed what I could in mine and the other pieces are in a couple boxes in storage. If you give me a couple days, I'll get out to storage and grab those boxes, then inventory what I have left.
that would be great. i need the tripmeter as mine is in bad shape without numbers and a working clock. just let me know.
No clock. That spot had a delete cover that said "GT" on it. And my clock's eventually going to get serviced or replaced. But tomorrow, I'll stop over at storage and grab the boxes.
Thanks Andy. just send me a PM and i'll get you shipping info and you lcan let me know where to send some $$.
Andy, What size did you end up using, and what brand? This would give me a good excuse to go back to a hobby shop. I had to give that up when I started spending money on cars again. In fact I sold most of my model car kit collection to buy my 74 Pinto project that is on hold due to buying the 72 Ranchero. Thanks, Russ
I forgot to respond about the cluster parts, so I apologize. I can't find the boxes anywhere that I thought they would be. I'm keeping my eyes out for them and will let you know when I do find them.
