    Hi All

Haven't had a carb car in decades.

My auto choke on my 400 2 barrell 76 Ranchero GT runs kind of high when cold.....how do I lower it?

    Thanks!

I'd have to check the specs, but you should have high idle with an auto choke, and it should be around 1500 +/- 100 RPM, then curb idle (first choke kickdown step), then low idle, and that is 600 +/- 50 RPM. Curb idle I'd have to look up. If your carb has its tag, I'd need the number off of it for the specs.

Look on the auto-choke side of the carb, for a plastic screw. You can control the fast idle from that. It must be adjusted when the carb is running on fast idle, might require a helper to keep the throttle and linkage settled. (it has been a long time here since I last adjusted a Ford carb -- check the drawing that comes with a rebuild kit)

Dang. Well, then, can you give me the month and year of your car, and what engine it has, because then I can likely come up with a close set of specs for your carb. Hell, Babe's carb setup is done with the old WW II TLAR fighter bombsight (stick your thumb up and declare "That looks about right!").
