Hi, can anyone help identify the intake manifold I have?
It was a STEAL.....but will it fit my engine?
The local dealer didn't have info going back that far.....also, is there online sources for these number ID,s?

I have a Ford factory 4bbl manifold, stamped:
    D1ZE-9425-BB
I have the 1972 351 Cleveland (2bbl currently), in my Ranchero.

Thanks in advance for any help.....
    David

That is the factory 1971 - 1972 351 CJ 4V intake manifold. It is a spreadbore design that uses the Autolite 4300 or Motorcraft 4300D carburetor. Normally one would use 4V heads with that manifold, I don't know how much work is involved in making 2V heads work with it.

    thanks

    Dan, thanks for the info....

Just to add to my humble knowlege,
    CJ stands for _______________
    2V/4V means _______________V=venturi??

Can I use any 4bbl carb I want?
I'd like to get an economical set up.
    Recommendations??
I know it's always a personal preferance type thing,
but I just want an economical cruiser.....

I think you will have problems running that manifold the heads will act wall when the air from the huge ports hit the small openings in the head

I would look for a looking for an aftermarket 351 2v 4bbl manifold

I agree with 50, the 4V intake won't work with the 2V heads (they might, but not well). To answer your ealier question, 2V = 2 barrel carberation while 4V = 4 barrel carberation. There are vast differences in the porting between the two manifold/head set-ups. You'd be much better off buying an aftermarket like an Edelbrock Performer from perhaps JEG's (800) 345-4545 or JEGS.com. Their part number is 250-2750 without an install kit or 250-2750K with the install kit. This unit is a direct bolt on that runs $223.99/$255.99 respectively. I have that with the install kit (basically a new valley pan and gaskets) with a 650 CFM Holley 80783C (@$355.99) generic 4 barrel that gives good solid performance at the lower RPMs. Others here may advise otherwise as they have more experience that I do. Shop around for better deals on both the carberator and intake. With some digging, you can find used hardware for a better price, but be cautious unless you know and trust the seller.
    Good Luck

No...It will not work without 4V heads and a spreadbore carb, don't waste your time and money. If you don't want to spring for the correct heads and carb go after market intake/carb that is for your application...

    Time to go shopping....

Well, I was hoping to have a Ford 4bbl setup, but it looks
much easier to get an aftermarket manifold and carb....maybe a shiney
    aluminum manifold......
Is it safe to assume that the aftermarket 4bbl manifolds are designed to use with the 2V heads,
or do I start looking for 4V heads?
    Thanks for all the feedback...

    follow up

    Thanks to all who contributed.....
I got a line on some re-done 351C high compression 4V heads at a fair price.
NOW....will I need to change the exhaust manifolds too???
Where does it end? 4v mufflers!!!?

Go with Edelbrock's 2V Performer, and use their recommendations as a guidline for carb, etc. Keep it simple, go with a dyno-proven setup.:cool:JD

    I give!!

OK....I went by the local cylinder head machine shop, had a little talk,
He would have loved to sell me some stuff...but he was straight enough to verify all that you guys have mentioned,
Too much hassle for what would be gained.
He recommended an after market intake(such as Edelbrock) that is engineered for the 2V heads, also said that the mileage difference between the 2bbl and 4bbl carbs wouldn't be very significant.
I would rather keep it simple, NO carburetion changes, cam changes, exhaust changes etc.
Thanks for all you guys' interest and help
    David
