I have a 500 built in Jan 72. I ordered roof weatherstrip from Steele for a 72-76 Ranchero. It doesn't seem to fit quite right. I broke out the parts manual, and see that the part number changed in Feb of 72, of course! Anyone else run into this?
    Old number D2oz9751222A
    New number D2oz9751222B

There were a bunch of changes between the early and late 72's.
As far as i know, all the changes happened in the first quarter of 72, so all the ones made after the end of march are the same.
A group of front end parts are different in the early ones, as are some trim items and under hood layout.
I have never seen a comprehensive list of these changes. I would like one, as I have and early 72 also.

The US relationship with China changed, when Nixon visited there, Feb. 21, 1972.

Awww- - Cut him a bit of slack Carl, that's mostly history not politics. Who knows if that didn't become a starting point for cheap parts in our Fords. I got some parts for my Lincolns in NOS boxes from Ford stating "Made in China" shortly after that time. And NO, I still don't like the idea !

Yeah, Carl, it is history, not politics. And once this thread turned to fishing, I thought I brought it back on topic; that being,

I think you're on to it Andy. Anyone remember those cheezy wheel bearings that showed up at that time ? The ones that had a plastic cage around the rollers and lasted about as long as a bag of popcorn ? Or those infernal ignition points that didn't have a pivot pin, just brass strips acting as a spring ?

That must have been the great beer can deal that gave someone else the idea for the plutonium one deal, other than that I have no idea why they did production changes on a same year car.

The car was being ended due to federal front bumper requirements. Changes likely had to do with retooling required for the next year and forward production.

Only one lake I know of in Nevada, and a river you can't see from above ground.
